Nominations Overview
The essence of the World Ability Awards is the recognition and acknowledgement of those organizations and individuals whose work has helped to bring focus on a person's ability rather than their disability. These extraordinary contributions allow individuals who happen to have a disability the ability to live their life based more on what they can do rather than being judged by what they cannot do. Identifying the ‘best of the best’ in any given year is a difficult task considering that there are thousands upon thousands of individuals and organizations that deserve recognition.
As with any task, determining a winner has a beginning. For the World Ability Awards, that beginning is an independent nomination process—a process by which all organizations and individuals can unite to ensure that no accomplishment, no contribution to improving the lives of people with disabilities escapes recognition.
The winners of the awards are determined by an independent judging panel representing dozens of organizations who considered hundreds of confidential nominations submitted to the World Ability Federation, NFP. For the 2005 awards, the World Ability Federation calls for all those dedicated to improving the lives of people who have a disability to get directly involved by nominating those who have made extraordinary contributions.
